THIS April, Emma Rogers of Bryngwyn near Newcastle Emlyn will take part in the London Marathon to raise money in memory of her mother, Gill.
Emma hopes to raise at least £500 for Pancreatic Cancer UK after her mother died of the cancer in 2000.
This will be Emma’s first attempt at the 26 mile London Marathon and not even her calf injury will stop her.
"Training is going well but I should probably be training more, but I currently have a calf injury," said Emma who works at the Arcade in Llandysul.
She added: "My application for the marathon was accepted this year, and I had hoped that my partner’s application would also have been approved, but it wasn’t to be and I’ll be running on my own."
Emma tries to train three times a week with her partner Michael Burton, himself a keen runner and Iron Man competitor.
"I try and increase the distance I run by ten per cent each time so that when I get to the marathon, I will be at my peak. However this injury has set me back a bit, but I will get over the finishing line even if I have to crawl. I’m not setting myself a time, I just want to finish it and give it my best shot. It will be an achievement whatever time I finish," explained Emma who is relatively new to the sport.
"I hated running when I was in school and during my time in the Navy. I dreaded having to run but one day I decided to go for a run and I’ve been hooked ever since and will run around the hills of Bryngwyn, and there are plenty of them,’ laughed Emma who will travel with Michael to Lanzarote in May for the Lanza Ironman.
"It’ll be my turn to be the number one supporter and it will be nice in London for Michael to be on the side lines instead of me," concluded Emma.
To sponsor Emma text LMPC60 £5 to 70070.
A money box and sponsorship forms are located in Penblwydd Hapus in Llandysul if anyone would like to make a cash donation.
