Canon Seamus Cunnane’s DIAMOND JUBILEE - June 12, 2015
ON a sunny, warm Friday evening, the parish of Our Lady of the Taper witnessed a rare event in the celebration of the Diamond Jubilee to the priesthood of Canon Seamus Cunnane.
Family, friends, fellow clergy together with Bishop Tom Burns, Bishop of Menevia, travelled from far and wide to this celebration.
The town of Cardigan was well represented by the dignitaries from various organisations who joined the parishioners in the celebration.
The celebration started with Holy Mass concelebrated by Bishop Tom, Father Phillip Harries, Parish Priest, the clergy of the deanery, with Canon Seamus as the main celebrant.
After Holy Mass the congregation moved to the hall where a superb banquet had been prepared by the people of the parish, with many gracious contributions from old friends who wanted to be part of the celebration. The parish presented Canon with a cheque, as a sign of their appreciation for the work he had done.
Canon Cunnane was ordained to the priesthood on June 12, 1955 at All Hallows College, Dublin, together with 33 other young men. Canon was ordained for the Diocese of Menevia, where he has served the people, both North and South, with loyal devotion, prayer and zeal. A greater part of those 60 years has been spent in the town of Cardigan.
The shrine of Our Lady of the Taper, Cardigan, is tribute to the hard work which Canon devoted himself to. He has involved himself in many local projects and particularly those of historical interest, in which Canon has great expertise.
We wish Canon many more fruitful years in the ministry of the Lord.
Ad Multos Annos. Llongyfarchiadau!
