Cardigan is a "lovely area" to police according to new town inspector Paul Bonner,
Insp Bonner, who is from Pembroke Dock, met with town councillors for the first time this week.
"Cardigan is a lovely area to police," he said.
"Crime levels are low here although there are issues to address," he siad.
Over the past month there have been two crimes of violence against the person in the town plus two sexual offences.
During the summer there were three burglaries - a high rate for the area - but Insp Bonner said the culprits had been caught and imprisoned.
Drugs and anti-social behaviour were also issues for the town.
"In terms of anti social behaviour there 31 offences - that's quite reasonable, in a town like this we would expect 30-40 calls a month," he said.
