Dear Editor,
Alice Jones [letters September 25 ] of Gwbert Road wants to silence me in the Press. That's gratitude ! My writings, along with those of others, have probably prevented her house from being devalued by several thousand pounds. Every Gwbert Road property would have suffered hugely in the shadow of a gigantic wind turbine, make no mistake !
She claims I have done nothing for Cardigan tourism, even though we have attracted a minimum of 20,000 visitors per annum through the town for 20 years with our Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park marketing, using 140,000 brochures per year..
Whilst on holiday in France, Spain and Portugal over the last fortnight, returning from Harwich across England , I distributed over 3500 of our brochures in all four countries. I placed them in hotels, visitor centres, tourist attractions and garden centres etc, where there was precious little about Wales [ mainly ZILCH !]......let alone Cardigan and Ceredigion !!!
She alludes to the highly dangerous Coastal Footpath on a crumbling cliff-edge , which Ceredigion County Council has failed to create here in almost eight years of bungled effort. In a desperate effort to browbeat and bully us , the council is sending no fewer than EIGHT officials here [ they must be grossly overmanned !] on October 8th to "survey" the route .Why didn't they do that eight years ago, before embarking on their idiocy? One is a council Health and Safety officer....who had NIL input in creating the Ceredigion Coast Path !! In fact, no H and S officials were consulted for a 63 mile long path and it was created without ANY essential CDM 2007 , Health and Safety legislation. Another illegality!
It won't make a difference if they send a 100 officials on Oct 8th ! Footpath officials have also ignored a High Court Judgment demanding a 2 metre safety margin between the path and cliff-edge.Yet their own council legal officer, Rachel Tarbutt , admits the WHOLE judgment is binding !!??
Footpath Officer Ian Dutch claims "the judge is wrong with his 2 metre safety zone ! " Amazing ! There again,Mr Dutch has lived in Laugharne for the past 30 years whilst working for Ceredigion County Council in Aberaeron !!??
He has located a public footpath over the edge ......in actual fresh air....of a 150 ft crumbling cliff, on an illegal 1:5000 Footpath Creation Order Map.The map must DEFINE the route of the path. Paragraph 5 ,Section 26 , Highways Act 1980 DEMANDS 1:2500 maps. Therefore, much of the Ceredigion Coast Path has been illegally created !
All eight of these council officials will lay themselves wide open to the Corporate Manslaughter Act 2007 if they somehow create a public footpath here. Fatalities are inevitable !!
If this "miraculous " footpath somehow goes ahead , I will probably invite singer Aled Jones to open it.......singing "Walking in the Air !"
