CARDIGAN residents have been backed by town councillors in their fight to stop Tai Ceredigion building houses on a play area.
Town councillors this week voted unanimously to object to plans to demolish 20 garages, build three houses and nine flats and relocate the play area in Maesglas.
And they raised concerns that the housing association was claiming there was no interest in renting the garages.
"I applied for a garage but haven't heard anything back," said Cllr Neal Jones.
"I understand that the rents have been put up and there are quite a few empty."
"There's something not quite right," said Cllr Clive Davies.
And Cllr Melfydd George said: "They are refusing to rent out the garages - it's not that anyone doesn't want them."
A letter from residents called for town council support against the scheme - the third time Tai Ceredigion have attempted to build on the play area.
Councillors also called for play equipment - that Tai Ceredigion removed after claims it was vandalised - to be returned.
