HORSES, ponies and dogs strutted their stuff at an annual fun show in Eglwyswrw on Saturday.
Dyfed Shire Horse Farm hosted the event to raise funds for the Wales Air Ambulance, a cause close to the staff’s hearts.
Farm manager Carys Richards said: “Air Ambulance Wales is really important to us; it’s saved three of my friends’ lives in the past.
“About six weeks ago my boyfriend suffered a nasty forestry accident and he needed the air ambulance. It just proves that you never know when you or a loved one will need it.”
The horse and pony show is intended for amateur riders, giving them valuable experience at competing in the show ring.
Some of the ridden classes winners were Helen Thomas with best 1st season horse, Cari James with best ridden mare, Anna Parkes with best ridden gelding and Alex Manning on the best lead rein pony. The overall champion was Cara Thomas on Nugget.
Winners of the in-hand classes included Ian Manning on mountain and moorland small breeds, Claire Bodsworth on best heavy horse and Sarah Mathias on best three years and over. The champion was Hilary Brockbank on Winton Romany Prince.
The novelty classes also proved popular, with best six legs, longest eyelashes, and fancy dress competitions.
The dog show saw all sorts of breeds compete in a variety of classes. Some of the winners were Becki Smith who won best puppy with Dennis, Harriet Hunt who performed the best trick with Daphne and Elspeth Lancaster who won best crossbreed with Molly. The best in show prize went to Roxy the Bernese mountain dog.
A total of £307 was raised on the day. Carys said: “We are very proud of what we have raised and would like to thank all who were involved with making the day what it was.”
The owners of the farm, Huw and Nicky Murphy recently moved to the Falkland Islands, and the attraction will close at the end of the season for 18 months.
Carys added: “Opening next summer is a possibility, but that depends on what the economy is doing.”
