A TOTAL of 366 tyres were taken along to a waste amnesty in Newcastle Emlyn.

Residents also took along various other unwanted items of waste including old TVs, carpets, mattresses and furniture.

A number of amnesties are being held across the county to encourage people to dispose of their waste responsibly, help reduce fly-tipping and increase our recycling figures.

Executive Board Member for Technical Services Cllr Colin Evans said: “We always get an excellent response in Newcastle Emlyn and I am delighted so many residents took advantage of this opportunity to get rid of their unwanted waste.

“The majority of the waste collected can be recycled which means it won’t end up in landfill causing pollution. It is important we recycle as much possible.”

The waste and tyre amnesty was organised by the council’s waste and recycling section and Tidy Towns which is a Welsh Government-funded initiative delivered in partnership by the council and Keep Wales Tidy.

Everyone that took along an item of waste to dispose of also received a free bag of Merlin’s Magic Compost courtesy of CWM Environmental Ltd.
