Dear Editor
With regards to last week’s front page of the Tivy-Side – Sainsburys to be started within months. We, the 'No to Bathhouse Campaign Coalition' feel this speculative property development is nothing more than designed to open the land up beyond the Bathhouse site, and unwanted by the businesses and public alike. The facts to date are : 3,000 people signed a petition against the Bathhouse development. 333 people wrote objecting to the planning department with only four supporting it. Two packed meetings at the Catholic Church and the school, with around 300 people against the development with councillors present. Such was the public outrage at this and other unwanted schemes, forced upon the public, that four town councillors lost their seats, three of them former mayors. We the members of the Campaign Coalition, believe public consultation has no value as the people of Cardigan have not been listened to by the Welsh Assembly, Ceredigion Council or Town Council and if Sainsburys force themselves on the town a boycott is planned. We also believe there will be continual problems with the site which is built over a flood tunnel.
