PARALYMPIC Gold Medal winning cyclist, Mark Colbourne MBE, is encouraging people in Cardigan to ditch the car in favour of walking and cycling for short journeys, as part of the Welsh Government’s Way To Go campaign.

The Way To Go campaign encourages everyone in Wales to think about the actions to help save energy and money while tackling climate change at the same time.

According to the Energy Saving Trust half of all car journeys in the UK are for less than five miles and short trips like this can be more expensive because cars use more fuel when they are warming up. Walking and cycling for these shorter journeys is a great option and has health benefits as well as saving money.

Mark Colbourne MBE said: “I feel very passionately about motivating people to start cycling and there’s no better way to ease yourself into exercise by replacing some of your short journeys with either a cycle ride or by walking.

“I’d really like to see people in Cardigan start to realise that walking or cycling for short journeys rather than using the car will help to improve their health, save money on petrol and parking and reduce their impact on the environment.”
