THERE was a buzz around a stall in the Cardigan Tesco store over the weekend, where information was being provided about Welsh classes for adults in the area. The stall was manned by local Welsh tutors, and there was a constant stream of enquiries and people coming to register for courses.
Throughout Saturday and Sunday, advice was given about the variety of courses available, as the choice can be bewildering for newcomers. There are courses in all areas, and range from the weekly fast-track or easier paced courses, day-schools and short intensive courses, to specialist courses in work or with parents of young children. All of them aim to get you speaking Welsh, and give you loads of practice in enjoyable classes. All levels are catered for, from complete beginners to Welsh speakers wanting to improve their skills in writing and speaking to reach a professional level. And courses are available in the day as well as in the evening. On-line help is available too.
On Saturday morning, Radio Ceredigion held a live broadcast 'road-show' in the Tesco car park, interviewing local shoppers about learning Welsh, and this too attracted a lot of attention and brought more people to the information stall.
The classes are starting at the end of September, and some are already full, but it's not too late to register whatever your level or area. If anyone missed the stall, they can get information from the freephone number 0800 876 6975, or from local tutors on 01239 654561.
