YSGOL y Preseli pupils are among 30 Pembrokeshire youngsters travelling to London next month to be presented with Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
The ceremony takes place on October 10 at St James’ Palace in the presence of the Duke of Edinburgh.
The youngsters have achieved the top accolade in the prestigious award scheme.
To win a Gold Award young people have to undertake voluntary work in the community, learn new sports and skills, as well as undertake a three-night expedition in the wilds.
“These youngsters are to be congratulated and praised for their achievement,” said Councillor David Simpson, Cabinet Member with responsibility for the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and a Gold Award holder himself.
“Too often these days we hear about the negative side of youngsters but to achieve such an award takes hard work and determination and, quite a bit of courage too! – and it’s all done in their spare time,” he said.
Award winners from Ysgol y Preseli taking part in next month’s ceremony are: Laura Ann Thomas, Lucinda Anne Thomas, Cian Jones, Sian Medi-Davies, Matthew James and Catrin Rowlands.
Ffion Richards and Abby Powell from the Crymych Open Award Centre will also be attending.
