A JOBLESS Cardigan teenager assaulted two police officers at a festival, after plans to help friends went ‘horribly wrong’, a court heard last week.

Jeremy Phoenix Shane Harley Pendragon, aged 18, of Greystones, Priory Street, appeared before Aberystwyth magistrates on Wednesday.

He pleaded guilty to two charges of assaulting a constable in the execution of their duty, and being in possession of two Boomtown Fair wristbands for use in connection with a fraud in Hampshire on August 9.

The court heard Pendragon had gone to the festival with friends, but not all of them had enough money to get in. After a friend texted the defendant to help him get in, Pendragon got two of the group who had entered the event to take off their wristbands without breaking them.

As he made his way to his friends outside the festival, he caught the attention of a police dog and an officer asked him to turn out his pockets, spotting the extra wristbands.

He hit out and punched her in the chest before running off, and kicked another officer who attempted to stop him in the leg.

Katy Hanson defending said Pendragon, who was on job seekers allowance, had saved up for some time to attend the festival.

She said: “His friends were texting and calling him to go back with the wrist bands to get them in.

“Everything went horribly wrong, and he was scared he would be thrown out of the festival. He didn’t intend to hurt the officer, he was reckless.”

“He panicked, and unfortunately his actions made everything worse.”

She added that her client, who is currently studying furniture production at Coleg Ceredigion, was very sorry for his actions, and had apologised.

Pendragon was sentenced to a 12 month community order with 120 hours community service.

He was also ordered to pay £50 compensation to each injured police officer, plus £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
