A LOCAL footballer is to stand trial at the crown court accused of drug-related offences including supplying Class A drugs.

Ricky Woods, a winger with Maesglas Football Club in the Costcutter Ceredigion League, who was represented by Alan Lewis, appeared at Ceredigion Magistrates Court and pleaded not guilty on four charges.

Woods aged 21, of Kyalami, 21 Bronydre, Cardigan, was charged that at Cardigan on December 8 last year he had in his possession a quantity of the Class A drug Crack Cocaine with intent to supply to another.

He was further accused of possession with intent to supply the Class A drug Ecstasy (MDMA), possession with intent to supply the Class B drug Cannabis and Class C drug Ketamine, the charges brought under the Misuse of Drugs Act. The total street value of the drugs was said to be £550.

Crown prosecutor Gerald Neave submitted that the charges were too serious to be dealt with summarily and the case should be sent to the crown court.

Mr Lewis said he had no representation as to where the trial should be held.

Presiding magistrate Huw Williams said he and his colleagues agreed with the prosecution submission and declined jurisdiction.

Woods is to appear at Swansea Crown Court on Friday, September 27 and in the meantime he was released on unconditional bail.
