Local MP Stephen Crabb recently attended the launch of a new booklet which aims to promote the excellent walking opportunities around Cilgerran to local people and visitors.
The booklet, which is bilingual, is part of the ‘Walkers are Welcome’ initiative to encourage towns and villages around the UK to be ‘welcoming to walkers’. Stephen was invited to the well-attended launch at Cilgerran Village Hall and afterwards enjoyed a walk around the village with around twenty residents of all ages.
The book was designed by Ian Bowler and is beautifully illustrated by Cilgerran resident Susan Martin. The detailed descriptions provide walkers with an insight into the ancient beauty of Cilgerran and its natural scenery, with photos by Daniel Browne who also lives in the village. Those involved with the project explained that thanks to the County Council and landowners, these walks are now in good condition.
Commenting, Stephen said:
“The ‘Walkers are Welcome’ scheme is a great initiative to encourage people to use the outdoors around them both for health reasons and simply for enjoyment.”
“There are some fantastic walks around Pembrokeshire, but particularly around the Cilgerran area. The residents who have helped to bring this booklet together should be thanked for highlighting these opportunities in the north of our County.”
