A LLANDYSUL man was told on Friday he was going to jail after he admitted a string of sex offences.

David Thomas Clapton, aged 53, appeared before Judge Huw Davies at Swansea crown court for a plea and case management hearing.

He admitted sexually assaulting a boy aged under 10 in June of last year.

Clapton also admitted five offences of voyeurism by secretly observing five different people doing acts that should have been private.

Clapton also pleaded guilty to 14 offences of making and possessing child pornography, including the possession of 11,282 indecent images of children.

He denied distributing child pornography and possessing and making indecent images of children on dates other than those covered by his guilty pleas.

Huw Rees, prosecuting, said the pleas were acceptable and Judge Davies entered formal verdicts of not guilty in relation to the charges that Clapton had denied.

Mr Rees said it was accepted that Clapton had not shown recordings he had made to other people, possibly because he could be seen in the footage.

Clapton's barrister, Janet Gedrych, said he was "realistic" about the sentence he would receive.

Judge Davies said only an immediate custodial sentence was feasible for such a "collection" of offending.

He said he would grant Clapton bail until a sentencing hearing on September 20 but only to allow him time to put his affairs in order.

Jail, he added, was a foregone conclusion.

Clapton was bailed to an address in Leicestershire and ordered not to contact certain, named people.
