A TOTAL of 30 eager Ysgol Bro Gwaun Year 12 students and five staff completed a nine mile walk from Llanychaer to Newport last month, to raise funds for the local RNLI.
The team set out at 10am to walk from the Bridge Inn up through the start of the Gwaun valley.
Conditions warranted a large number of water stops and Richard Davies provided the necessary support, by meeting the group at a number of pre-designated points along the windy route.
The group found the climb up onto Carn Ingli common very demanding, but energy and determination was demonstrated by all walkers throughout the day to achieve their goal.
Darrell Willington, retiring head of sixth form, said: “Well done to everyone and thanks to all of the staff, who supported the students in their desire to finish the term in such a positive and generous manner.
“Mr Davies, who is also retiring after 32 years at the school, the staff and I, would like to thank the students for their endeavour and wish them every success in examinations and their future careers.”
