The poetry trail created on public footpaths at Yr Hendre, the farm of the late archdruid Dic Jones, provides a lasting memorial to the chaired and crowned poet.

Some of his verses and words are engraved on tiles and woodcuts alongside the footpaths around and in the wood he planted more than 40 years ago.

The poetry trail itself follows a circular route through the hilltop woodland on land between Blaenporth and Aberporth.

Dic’s son Brychan, who set up the trail, said: “Somewhere behind this is the idea of completing a circle.

“Who knows where circles start and end, but somewhere in this there’s lifelong labour, inspiration and poetry.”

He added: “I was given the idea by a dear friend of how to create a sense of place.

“So many people visit the farm to stay in our tipis from all over the world.

“Many local people and visitors walk the public footpaths that cross our land too.

“My friend, Eluned Haf, suggested that all these visitors should know where they had come to.

“The farm of Dic Jones, or Dic yr Hendre, my father, arch druid, chaired and crowned poet who recently passed away.”

Dic’s poetry was inspired by the land he worked all his life.

Brychan said: “What I have done is put his words back into that land and presented them in places along the footpaths to create a poetry trail.

“This has been done by finding clay on the farm, digging it up and creating tiles with elaborate calligraphy of his words.

“So now his words are back in the land.

“And I am told that these tiles should last for centuries, in the hope of making his poetry even more immortal, at the place and in the land that inspired him.”
