THE hugely successful, locally based Pint-sized Plays is coming to Cardigan in a special show at Small World Theatre this autumn.
Pint-sized Plays is now recognised as a leading international competition for short plays and this year attracted over 250 entries from Australia, the USA, New Zealand as well as Wales and other parts of the UK. The six winning plays and four runners up are performed in pubs and then compete in a Script Slam where the audience decide on the overall winning script.
On October 5, a selection of the 2013 winning scripts will be performed in a special show at Small World Theatre. In addition, a number of previous year’s winners will also be performed by Almost Random Theatre of Oxford. These include the overall 2012 Winning Script: Twins by Stuart Crafton from the USA, and the 2012 runner-up: Role Play; the overall 2011 winner, Carol Police by Keith Johnson, In-Sex which won a performance award in 2011 and was at the Edinburgh Fringe this year, and the winner from the second year of Pint-sized Plays Anger Management for Dogs by Rupert Haigh from Finland.
Pint-sized Plays organiser, Derek Webb, said: “I’m very pleased that we’re bringing Pint-sized Plays to Cardigan – and Small World Theatre just has to be the perfect fit! We’ll arrange seating cabaret style, so it’ll be a cross between a theatre and a pub – which is where the plays were originally written to be performed of course. It’s also very gratifying that each year we seem to attract a wider a wider range of themes, and this year’s crop is more diverse than ever.”
Each of the 12 plays lasts about 10 minutes and promises to be a real fun evening combining pub atmosphere with theatre. The show starts at 8pm and tickets, £6.50, can be booked online at whatevertheweatherwales.co.uk.
