RHOSYGILWEN hosts an evening of folk music on Friday 27th Sept from the three Celtic nations led LAU’s singer Kris Drever from Orkney accompanied by the stunning Irish fiddler, Eamon Coyne. The popular Welsh mother and daughter due DnA also appear as special guests.

Kris Drever has attracted plaudits for his singing as well as his playing, with his warm, soulfully resonant vocals featuring in five of the thirteen tracks on LAU’s Fine Friday's debut album. His choice of songs ranges from the traditional Cold Blow and the Rainy Night to Steve Tilston's Slip-Jigs and Reels; from Boo Hewerdine's Hummingbird to the classic Scots ballad The Selkie.

‘I like either to do songs that haven't been covered much before,’ he says, ‘or folky standards that are open to a different interpretation. I try to steer clear of that kind of typical folk-singer sound, and put my own mark on things.’ Kris also plays with The Kate Rusby Band and Session A9.

Eamon Coyne has been a dominant and important fiddle and mandolin player on the traditional Irish music scene for many years. He was brought up in this tradition, along with his brothers Michael (pipes & vocals) and Terry (flute and vocals), by his father, Eamon Coyne, Sr. of the Liverpool Ceili Band.

DnA are a mother and daughter folk duo from Swansea. Delyth Jenkins, who plays the Celtic harp, has been described as one its leading exponents. Angharad Jenkins plays fiddle with the Welsh folk group Calan which has burst onto the Welsh folk scene like a breath of fresh air.

Together these four musicians promise to bring together an evening of uncompromising excellence in the Celtic tradition, under one roof in Rhosygilwen’s Neuadd y dderwen. Tickets are £10 bookable on line on Rhosygilwen.co.uk or by calling 01239841387 during office hours. The performance starts at 8 pm.
