THE Met: Live in HD kicks off the 2013/14 season with Deborah Warner’s new production of Tchaikovsky’s romantic tragedy Eugene Onegin, On Saturday October 5.

Screening Live in HD via satellite to Theatr Mwldan at 6pm, the production sees the return of Valery Gergiev to the podium and marks Deborah Warner’s directing debut at the Met - a co-production with ENO that opened in London in 2011 to tremendous reviews.

Based on Pushkin’s novel Tchaikovsky tells the classic story of unrequited love starring Anna Netrebko as the naive and passionate Tatiana and Mariusz Kwiecie? as the arrogant Onegin. Netrebko and Kwiecie? are opening their third and second consecutive Met seasons respectively in Met debut roles. Piotr Becza?a reprises the role of Onegin’s best friend turned enemy Lenski opposite Oskana Volkova, his fiancée Olga.

Three weeks later, on October 29 at 7pm, a second Russian opera takes the stage - Shostakovich’s The Nose returns to the Met in William Kentridge’s acclaimed 2010 production. Conducted by Pavel Smelkov, Paulo Szot leads the cast as the hapless Kovalyov, with Andrey Popov as the Police Inspector and tenor Alexander Lewis as the peripatetic nose in Gogol’s satirical comedy of a Russian bureaucrat searching for his missing nose.

Tickets for both events are £16 (£15), available from Mwldan's Box Office on 01239 621200, online at www.mwldan.co.uk, or via Smartphones.
