ABERYSTWYTH Food and Drink Festival is returning for the second year with up to 50 stalls and cooking demonstrations.
The family event will include a Love Food Hate Waste Cookery demonstration, and takes place in Baker Street on September 21, 10am to 4pm.
The festival aims to show people how to make tasty meals from the food usually thrown away, and how to save money, and a typical family could save £50 a month on their food bill.
Welsh culinary ambassador ‘Dai Chef’ (Davies) originally from Aberystwyth will share his expertise with the Mayor of Aberystwyth and MP Mark Williams in short cook offs during the day.
The festival, organised by Ceredigion County Council and Waste Awareness Wales, aims to reduce food waste produced in Wales, and will share practical advice on how to plan meals, work out portion sizes, understand date labels and store food correctly to make it last longer.
Jan Fenner, Farmers’ Markets Co-ordinator with Ceredigion County Council, said: “We are really looking forward to the road show visiting Aberystwyth again. Last year residents picked up a lot of useful hints and tips on how to reduce their food waste, and what to make with their leftovers.”
There will be an opportunity to win a food hamper worth £50 by filling out a short survey. Surveys can be completed on the day or visit www.wasteawarenesswales.org.uk.
