RHOSYGILWEN mansion is the venue for a brand new monthly folk club.
Starting at 8pm on Thursday, September 19, in the barn and hosted by veteran folkie Jan Steer it promises to be a great evening.
The aim is to try and recreate the folk club scene of the 70s where a special guest folk entertainer will be supported by a whole host of musicians and singers.
This meeting’s special guest will be the amazing Joe Latter. Joe’s knowledge of folk song is legendary and his performances are always eagerly anticipated.
Anyone with a love of folk music will be made very welcome and it is hoped that the club will quickly become established as the place for local artistes to showcase their talents. Alongside the traditional and contemporary folk acts there will be space for local poets too.
Jan Steer has performed all over the world giving live performances as well as on radio and television in places as diverse as Kenya and China. Most recently he could be heard on Radio Wales’ Celtic Heartbeat programme. He plays guitar, mandolin and ukulele but is best known for his unaccompanied traditional songs.
Jan’s traditional CD, “Tellin’ Tales” will be available to buy on the night and it is also available through his website at www.jansteer.co.uk. War veteran Jan, who is also a kidney cancer survivor, is giving all money raised through the sales to Cancer Research UK.
