THEATR Gwaun Fishguard is delighted to bring film fans a real treat –filmed largely in Fishguard itself – presenting Under Milk Wood (15) for one night only on September 19 at 7.30pm
Directed by Andrew Sinclair, and starring Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor and Peter O'Toole, Under Milk Wood visits the sleepy town of Llareggub, as night falls, and two strangers pass through the quiet cobbled streets.
Andrew Sinclair's inspired film adaptation of Dylan Thomas's 'play for voices' casts Richard Burton and Ryan Davies as the drunken, rollicking nocturnal visitors, with cameos from Peter O'Toole (as blind Captain Cat) and Elizabeth Taylor (as sailors' whore Rosie Probert).
A formidable Celtic ensemble including Sian Phillips, Glynis Johns, Angharad Rees, Vivien Merchant and Talfryn Thomas breathes wonderful life into Thomas's verse, lifting the lid on the quiet town and its deliciously eccentric inhabitants. Under Milk Wood is a spellbinding verbal epic with a star performance from the rich, vibrant voice of Richard Burton. Pure poetry.
