A BUSY week is in store for the villagers of Drefach Felindre.
The village history project, in partnership with Culturenet Cymru, is organising a week where villagers past and present are invited to bring their items of interest down to the local museum for scanning and photographing.
Culturenet Cymru is based at The National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth, and will work with the Village History Project to collect and record historical material and once scanned will be included in the People’s Collection Website which is dedicated to the story of Wales and its people.
The Village History Project also plans to create its own website ‘Stori Fawr Drefach Felindre’, which will trace the history of the village and surrounding area from the very earliest known information about the ancient monuments, through to the period of dominance in welsh woollen manufacturing, right up until the present day.
Project Chairman Stephen Jones said: “The recent cheese and wine evening was very successful and confirmed the enthusiasm for the project within the community, but it’s time to move on, and the forthcoming scanning week is a vitally important stage in the development of the project. History is not only about our distant past but also about recent events of note, which will contribute to the history of tomorrow. We ask everybody with an interest in the history of the locality to assist either by providing historical material or by helping out with the scanning and recording.”
The scanning week begins each day at 10am from Monday the 9th of September 9 to 16 at the Welsh Woollen Museum. Everyone is welcome.
