‘TEA with Mamgu’, a story of family, friends and failing memories, performs at Aberystwyth Arts Centre on Wednesday, September 11.
White Desert Productions, the London Welsh Centre’s resident theatre company, is touring the UK with this restaging of its successful production.
This is the story of Jinny and her failing mind. As she wanders from reality to memory and back, we explore snippets of her life; from meetings over tea and cake with her lifelong friends, to conversations with her grandson Dylan and her husband Dylan Snr. The play is an exploration of what the early stages of dementia can be like for both the sufferer and their loved ones.
The play is written by D J Evans, who has been shortlisted for the Pulse New Writing Award. The production has a diverse and talented cast of young actors, who flit between youthful bounce, aged wisdom and wise cracks; they have been reunited for this autumn tour.
