The Ceredigion Advisory Committee of The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society Ltd met on Wednesday 12 th February at the Aberaeron Rugby Club to hear reports from David Walters Chief Executive on the 2008 Winter Fair as well as preparations for the 2009 Royal Welsh Smallholders Show and Garden Festival to be held on 16th and 17th May 2009 and preparations for the 2009 Royal Welsh Show to be held on July 20th to the 23rd July 2009.
David Walters congratulated the Show President for 2008 Mr Trebor Edwards and his team in Clwyd for all their hard work in raising monies for the 2008 Show and wished Glamorgan all the best for the 2009 Show and wished Dai Jones Llanilar MBE, FRAgS and his team all success as Ceredigion’s President for the 2010 Show.
Mr Gwynne Davies Chairman of the Ceredigion Advisory Committee thanked Mr David Walters for his thorough reports and congratulated the team at Llanelwedd for their professionalism in running the best Show in Europe.
Gwynne Davies then went on to give further details of the Ceredigion Sioe’r Cardis 2010 committee structure to assist with fund raising for the Ceredigion appeal in 2010. The county of Ceredigion has been divided into 3 areas with a committee set up in each of North, Mid and South Ceredigion as well as a Ladies Committee for the County.
The North Ceredigion Committee is chaired By Mr Hugh Tudor, Ty’n Berllan, Llanilar, the Secretary is Wendy Lloyd, Facwn, Llangwyryfon and the treasurer is Mr Neville Jones, Llanilar. The Mid Ceredigion Committee is chaired by Nicola Davies Maesmynach Cribyn with Heather Price, Esgaireinon, Llanwenog, Secretary and Arwel Jones, Aberaeron as Treasurer.
The South Ceredigion Committee is chaired by John Davies, Blaenglowon, Talgarreg, the Secretary Beth Davies, Gorrig, Llandysul and treasurer John Morris, Llwynpiod Farm, Cardigan. The Ladies Committee is chaired by Buddug Lewis, Llanbadarn, Pennant with Joint Secretaries Gwen Davies, Gwarffynnon, Silian and Jane Jones, Pantlleinau, Bontnewydd and Treasurer Nia Richards, Aberaeron.
The four Committees have already held their first meetings and below are the dates and venues for the next ones :- Mid Ceredigion Wed 25th Feb 2009 at 7.30pm at the Talbot Hotel Tregaron Ladies Committee Tue 10th March 2009 at 7.30pm at Aberaeron Rugby Club South Ceredigion Tuesday 17th March 2009 at 7.30pm at Tafarn Ffostrasol North Ceredigion Wed 8th April 2009 at 8pm at Llety Parc, Aberystwyth.
The Ceredigion Royal Welsh Show 2010 Appeal will be formally launched at a grand dinner on Easter Saturday evening 11th April at 7.30pm in the Pavillion in Pontrhydfendigaid. Other definite events at the moment are :- Sat 25th April at Tafarn Bach, Pontsian - an evening with Glyn Owens and Trefor Jones from Clwyd. On Friday May 1st Parlour Racing in Tafarn Ffostrasol at 8pm. On Sat 27th June, a Grand Golf Tournament at Aberystwyth Golf Club with some celebrities in attendance- details from Mr Dai Davies, Dolau, Llanilar Tel 01974 24131.
There are many other suggestions and ideas being discussed at present such as a concert on Llanilar Show night Sat 8th August 2009 using the Llanilar Show marquee with Cut Lloi and Aber Jazz and 22nd August 2009 A Parade of The Countryside comes to Town in Aberystwyth, and a Cymanfa Ganu in Soar y Mynydd, Abergwesyn. Creating a CD and a grand concert of all National Eisteddfod Blue Riband winners from Ceredigion, is also being planned as well as a tractor run and many other events.
