Ceredigion’s Elin Jones AM has called on Arriva Trains Wales to ensure that improving the service on the Cambrian Line railway is its New Year’s Resolution for 2009.
The current on-going engineering work to improve the Cambrian Line’s infrastructure is scheduled to be completed during 2009 which will allow a more frequent train service to be introduced.
Arriva Trains Wales also recently announced its intention to consider introducing a direct service between Aberystwyth and London Marylebone in the near future.
Commenting on the need to improve rail services on the Cambrian Line, Plaid Cymru’s Elin Jones AM said: "The Cambrian Line railway is one of the poorest performing train services in Wales and while the recent timetable improvements are very welcome, I hope that Arriva Trains Wales will make a New Year’s Resolution to improve rail services even further.
"In particular, there is demand for a more frequent service on the line once the current engineering works are complete which in turn will facilitate rail travel between Aberystwyth and Cardiff on the faster North-South service. Plans for a direct service to London are also very welcome and I hope that there will be further details available in the near future".
