Business and Management students from Coleg Ceredigion recently took advantage of its strong links with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David Group.
They did this by visiting the Swansea campus’ Faculty of Business and Management.
The visit was organised by Vic Saunders, Principal Lecturer at the Faculty of Business and Management, to highlight the progression pathways from FE to HE available within the Dual Sector University.
During the visit, the students took part in a series of sessions organised by colleagues at the Swansea campus.
The visit kicked off with a consumer buying behaviour session with senior lecturer Will Fleming during which students completed a blind Cola taste challenge to see if they could determine the difference between Coke, Pepsi and supermarket cola.
The lively session also compared the taste test’s results with researched public opinion that raised interesting points about brands and consumer behaviour.
The second session, with lecturer Gareth Hughes, delved into strategic management and examined the internal and external factors of a SWOT analysis.
The session ended with an educational quiz on Kahoot – a game-based learning platform. The final session of the day focused on UCAS applications and personal statements.
Allison Beer-Doblon, Business and Management course tutor at Coleg Ceredigion, noted: “The students really enjoyed their visit and were provided with a valuable first-hand experience of taking part in a lecture in an University environment. They also had the opportunity to meet tutors and see the excellent facilities at the department.
"Our students will no doubt consider the progression pathways available and the £1000 bursary on offer for progressing to degree-level courses within the UWTSD Group, as they consider their options for the future.”
