A popular Ceredigion Raft Race has once again raised thousands of pounds to help New Quay lifeboat crew save lives at sea.
Aberporth Ladies Fundraising Team visited New Quay lifeboat station last week to present a cheque of £2165 to help the volunteers continue their lifesaving work off the Ceredigion coast.
The annual charity raft race has grown in popularity over the years, raising thousands of pounds for the RNLI since the first race in 2011. This year’s event, held on Sunday 24 August, raised a staggering £2165 for the charity.
Roger Couch, New Quay RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager, said:
‘On behalf of New Quay lifeboat crew I would like to thank the Aberporth Ladies Fundraising Team for their continuous support over the years. The RNLI is a charity and does not receive government funding. Lifeboat crews such as New Quay RNLI depend on volunteers like Aberporth Ladies Fundraising Group and the support of the public to help us deliver the lifesaving service.’
Once again Ceredigion RNLI lifeguards supported the event by providing safety cover for the teams competing in the race.
Elin Jones, RNLI Lifeguard Supervisor is already looking ahead to next year’s event:
‘The event was a great success thanks to the Aberporth Ladies Fundraising team. Numerous rafts entered the race as well as people enjoying the BBQ, cakes stall and ball race. It was great to see people of all ages from across the country join together to help raise vital funds for the RNLI. We’re already looking forward and planning our rafts ready for next year’s event!’
